17 outta sight Sears catalog pages that will send you back to '72

It was an era of fondue, fur, velour and bellbottoms.

The Seventies were already in full effect by 1972. Our clothes were thick, synthetic fabric. Our food was cubed and dipped in cheese. Our bicycles were laid back and riding low.

Nothing takes you back to the past quite like the Sears catalog. It was filled with all the furniture, fashion, toys and gadgets of the era. Let's flip through '72.

1. Settle in and get comfy, 1970s style. Like in a bed entirely covered in fur.

2. This boy was oozing style as a funky train conductor sporting plush velvet.

3. Bellbottoms were blowing up, and blowing out.

4. Of course, you could go all in with a full velour pants-set.

5. Big handlebars, banana seat — this was how a bicycle needed to look in '72.

6. A pocket calculator was advanced technology. Can you imagine paying about $570 in today's money to add, subtract and multiply?

7. Just as we are nostalgic for the 1960s today, people of the 1970s missed the era of the Roaring Twenties.

8. There were two full pages devoted to fondue. Two!

9. More bellbottoms. In corduroy, for extra '70s texture.

10. Every boy wanted that Bobby Brady look.

11. Even Barbie were Ken were sporting fringe everywhere.

12. The Viewmaster was our Pokémon Go. We had to watch 'em all.

13. When's the last time you've seen "hostess gowns" being marketed?

14. The rural purge may have hit television, but it had not hit children's wear.

15. Every kid was a budding Don McLean.

16. Men were comfortable sleeping in Where's Waldo minidress.

17. The Gramma Doll was the hot commodity — right down to more themed bedding.

I was born in '72. My mother had the electric pinking shears featured on the side of the page in #6.
